Domu // Something Borrowed

Posted by admin on Monday, December 1, 2008

As if it wasn't hectic enough prior to Thanksgiving, now I'm just fat and useless as I navigate this this chaotic mess commonly referred to as the end of the semester. I think I officially lost it several days, maybe weeks ago -- but I digress. Who cares, there's good music.

Domu is a terribly underrated producer. Having recorded for and alongside greats like Jazzanova & 4 Hero, and for labels from Reinforced to Archive and JCR -- he's undoubtedly one of Bedford's finest. This cut is taken for the sequel to his 2004 Discotech EP, and is available now on Neroli.

Fat, chunky, soulful, overflowing with flavors. Enjoy.

Five For J

My homeboy was a clown, and a dork at that.

We both instantly found the inherent greatness in this white label remix.

Reel 2 Real - I Like To Move It (Oizo Rmx)

That's not mentioning the cheesy 80s sound thing we were both down with.

I'll post some of those later. Haaa!!

Bangin' The Walkman

Posted by admin on Wednesday, October 24, 2007

SebastiAn comes back to the forefront with a slammin' re-edit of the infectious Walkman off his 2006 Ross Ross Ross EP released on Ed Banger. Fresh as the original (which you can scope with the video below), this re-edit hits you just as hard as the first time you heard the former, but cranked up about 8 notches. Heavy. Completing the package is his rendition of Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name Of.

SebastiAn is good, RATM was good, so mathematically speaking, it works.

Look for this one in your favorite store on Because Music.

There it is, March 25-29, 2008 -- Winter Music Conference -- Miami Beach Resort & Spa. This is annual jump-off, and it's going to be massive again this year. I've attended every year since '99 and this one will be no different. It'll be great to see everyone again and be able to catch up with those you only see once or a few times a year. It's a great week. If you haven't been, I highly suggest experiencing it at least once.

FloridaDNB.com is usually the best place for you to get information from the locals for almost anything. From event info, to hotels, food, dates, anything. You can usually find an answer to whatever you're looking for in the WMC 2008 sub-forum. Be sure to check the WMC 2007 discussion to see what you missed, and get up on the 2008 business.

Worship Ludachrist

Posted by admin on Friday, October 5, 2007

From the demented minds of Evol Intent's own Knick and co-conspirator Ewun comes the ridiculous side project known as Ludachrist. Holy crap, is this first thing that came to mind when I first heard this. It's an absolute mind fuck in a mash-up styleee. It's crunk, ghetto, hype, bangin', dope, innovative, and any other creative adjectives you can think of. They just took the mash-up to some next shit.

It's that good.

Check the shit out, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's tight work. Just when you think they took it there, they switch it up on you and take it somewhere else.

This would be great for a listening party somewhere if it wasn't live. It'd bust the roof off. No question this is going on rotation in the vehiculars. Absolute madness.

Hervé's Beats Pump, And I'm With That.

Posted by admin on Friday, September 14, 2007

I tend to like my house fatter and chunkier than most. I'm picky, but my zone is right when it starts chugging. You know, when you can just hear the compressors working like hell and something (or everything) is sidechained to the kick, so you get that pumping effect. It add a whole different dynamic to the piece and people really pick up on that--even if they don't recognize it.

If that's you as well... Listen to Hervé.

I put the accent because, damnit, if my name had an accent, I'd want it there too. Spell my name right, bitches.

I'm Latin. I can relate.

I've been listening more and more lately, but here are some of my favorites so far. I found him randomly while I was digging for another artist. He does work not only as Hervé, but as The Count of Monte Cristal (with Sinden) and about 3 other pseudos. Nonetheless... fat, funkin', chuggin' house. Dig it.

Shout to Palms Out Sounds.

Larry T feat Princess Superstar - Licky (Hervé Goes Low Rmx)

Ontop of the fact that it's fat and chunky at the first break, on the second break it busts out the FlowMaster synth for the old school effect. I like it, a lot.

NY Pony Club - Ice Cream (Hervé Goes Bananas Rmx)

For some reason, aside from Hervé's nasty, I radiated to this track and it stuck. I think that Watchu Want line is in a commercial. Perhaps off the original. Still, that synth and b-line on this remix will obliterate a floor. I like the amen that comes in on the second break. Amens sound nice in house music. Producers should use them more. Yes, I said it. What?

Baltimore Club, BOUNCE.

Posted by admin on Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Always on the cusp of something new, my boy Shawn Livewire who's posted up in the Far East hits us off with another slamming mix of some FRESH vibes currently busting up the circuit. Baltimore Club is like ghetto house's hot but slutty sister, and I lurve that skeeza.

She acts like she's all classy, but when it comes down to it, she knows. While the genre is primarily based on House, lately the genre has moved more towards a newer form of Hip Hop. Baltimore Club is to House what the Hyphy and Krump movement are to Hip Hop.

Slutty Package, You Know...

Posted by admin on Thursday, September 6, 2007

Since the rest of the blogosphere seems to be covering the whole Ed Banger side of things pretty well, here's a little something different from a crew of crazy Danes. Noisia. These guys are among the group of exceptional producers the industry has to offer. They manage to maintain their own sound and style regardless of whatever genre label or tempo is applied. Similarly, they still port over a lot of their Drum and Bass production skill into the other beats they produce. Their mixdowns are phenomenal and there is always a perfect harmony among the elements in their tunes. Previously they also did tunes as Hustle Athletics and Frizz, but now it's all Noisia. I'm actually into most of their alternate styles quite a bit (see Yellow Brick, Gutterpump, Raar, and the Hustle Atheltics stuff) and you can hear a lot of them on my Friday night radio show. Their downtempo sounds like some gritty turntablism, b-boy shit. Listen to Square Feet, trust me.

Enjoy this these showcase mix mixes and the video below from their '05 DVD release. Look out for TeeBee in the high grass.

Trina Killin' By The Edit

Posted by admin on Friday, August 31, 2007

I haven't been able to get this track out of my head for days, let alone stop listening to it. Shouts to Big Stereo. From the Steak movie soundtrack featuring Mr Oizo (who also directs the flick) Sebastien Tellier, & SebastiAn comes Trina Kills with a slammingly vicious edit of C.H.I.V.E.R.S. With several reworks popping up across the blogosphere, I'm anxious to hear what else is in store. Check this tune for an appetizer, it thumps, hard. Nasty fat, even. I've been wylin' out to it everywhere I go. Help yourself to her feature mix as your main course.

Burnin' Up & Wreckin' The Place

Posted by admin on Sunday, August 26, 2007

Laundry Bar proprietor Burn and Miami Electro bastion Wreck collaborate on what is the first in a series of promo mixes tied to the South Beach venue voted Best Place For a Second Date in the 2007 Miami New Times Best Of. I frequent the venue quite regularly and can say that it is certainly one of the better or best venues on South Beach. Intimate, always hosting diverse talent from all points, great music, with great sound, great bartenders, great drink prices, and with a radically different atmosphere than most clubs in the area. Check it out. Every single person I've told about or taken there, has said nothing but good things.

Now that I know my check is in the mail, I'll get to the goods.

This mix has been in my regular rotation for about a month now because it is so dope, that I had to share it. Some of my readers from FloridaDNB might know about it, but this one is for those who slept. The stylistic differences between two of Miami's best make for a really diverse and progressive mix. Watch out for that 1200 Warriors joint featuring Wu-Tang. Certified hot shit.
