Bearstorm

Posted by admin on Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I checked this band out purely on the name when my imagination showed me a horrendous storm in which bears rained from the sky to create hell on earth. Turns out the music is almost as good as that picture. Playing a progressive style of death metal it tales an epic tale and is worth checking out, grab it from me or get it for free off of their bandcamp while showing them some support.

The four chapters tell the ancient story of a thief banished from his villagLinke for desecration. He seeks the help of Baba Yaga, but the price is his life. His corpse wakes, just in time for his skin to burst as a bear comes forth. As he devours his own flesh to free his new form, his only thoughts are of revenge. Brutal revenge is taken, but the Great Lady returns for the remainder of what she is owed.

Alone by Evan Brewer

Posted by admin on Thursday, June 30, 2011

Evan Brewer is an amazingly talented musician and the current bassist of The Faceless, and if you don't believe me how amazing he is at his trade then you should simply check out the video below, which features him playing part of a song that is included in this record (Currency).

Alone is a completely instrumental record in which ONLY bass guitars participate. That's right, there are no drums, vocals, synthesizers, guitars, etcetera. Although there are some parts that would be probably more interesting if they had a full instrumentation, this record is an excellent and beautiful showcase of Evan's skill with the bass guitar, having mostly no useless-noodling or shredding and rather focusing on some real songwriting. It might not be for all you, but those who appreciate this kind of experimentation and are willing to give this album a chance until it completely sinks in might find this album great and a definite must-buy.

CHECK OUT THE VIDEO HERE.

NOTE: It will probably not be long until the link is down, so grab it while you can!

The Apocryphal Order

Posted by admin on Friday, April 8, 2011

New technical and progressive thrash metal band from the Faroe Island. It all started with one goal: To be the fastest, most brutal metal band ever from the Faroe Islands! Guitarist Ken Johannesen was looking for a new band name for his former band Ineptus, and stumbled upon 'The Apocryphal Order'. The other band members didn't really like it, but Ken thought the idea of it was too exciting and started writing new technical speedy thrash metal songs to create a new band. There was only one drummer, he could think of who could play fast enough, so he met up with Martin Rói Vilhelmsen and they started rehearsing the songs. Shortly after, Torkil J. Thomsen joined as the lead singer, but the three of them were having a difficult time finding a bass player. After months of searching and auditioning, Johan Bjartur Kjærbo was asked to join the band and they were finally ready to go out and play concerts.

Becoming the Archetype Discography

Posted by admin on Monday, March 28, 2011

Becoming the Archetype is a Christian progressive death metal band signed to Solid State Records and Century Media Records (Europe) formed in 1999 in Dacula, Georgia. The members are professed Christians, and the band take their name from Genesis 1:26: "God said, 'Let us make man in our image.'" Since Jesus Christ was the only person to ever be sinless, He was the archetype of humanity; the band's name reflects this belief. In 2008 interview with The Full Armor of God Broadcast, Jason Wisdom summed up the band's philosophy stating "If we are not making a difference for the Lord, then we are just out there making noise!"

Dont let the christian label deter you, when i first heard of these guys a couple years ago I had no idea they were a christian band. Just thought it was some heavy epic shit.

Don Van Vliet (January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American musician, singer-songwriter and artist best known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. His musical work was conducted with a rotating ensemble of musicians called The Magic Band, active between 1965 and 1982, with whom he recorded 12 studio albums. Noted for his powerful singing voice with its wide range, Van Vliet also played the harmonica, saxophone and numerous other wind instruments. His music blended rock, blues and psychedelia with free jazz, avant-garde and contemporary experimental composition. The Moody Blues Discography

Posted by admin on Saturday, February 19, 2011

I've been collecting a lot of classic prog/psychedelic bands, so I'm sharing the wealth. I've only collected these bands' 'golden years,' the music they made during their original run, not when they re-formed 30 years later.

The Moody Blues are an English rock band. Among their innovations was a fusion with classical music, most notably in their 1967 album Days of Future Passed. The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 14 platinum and gold discs. As of 2011 they remain active with one member from the original band from 1964 and two more from the 1967 lineup.

The Magnificent Moodies - 1965

Days of Future Passed - 1967

In Search of the Lost Chord - 1968

On the Threshold of a Dream - 1969

To Our Children's Children's Children - 1969

A Question of Balance - 1970
