Death's Procession

Dead Roots Stirring

Elder`s debut was notable not just because it was oh so very good but because the three players were oh so very young. Unless you saw them live, you`d never guess that the intricate and evolved arrangements on Elder were the work of a group not old enough to drink legally.

Now that they`re able to make use of complimentary drink tickets, what`s changed? Elder`s sophomore release has the same flair for composition, but with the added bonus of having gelled more as a band. The difference is that the group has pulled away from an overt doom sound and has incorporated more psychedelic rock, ala Colour Haze and 35007.

Zebulon Pike

While the album is far from easy to digest, it rewards repeated listening. Beneath the thick, cold layer of distortion and sonic assault, there's tons of hypnotic shades to it. It's tough but takes you to another place, while never forgetting to hit you with neck snapping moments of metal.

Birch Hill Dam

"Colossus" meaning, something of immense size or power, seems a pretty fitting description to the grooving onslaught put forth on this album. Staying true to their debut, what u get here is more of the same southern-tinged stoner metal, a little doom thrown in for good measure and heaping amount of 70's and 80's rock, akin with bands like Down, Crowbar, Alabama Thunderpussy with a bit of Thin Lizzy and Deep Purple.
