Alaska & Paradox // The Isolationist LP

The Isolationist is the phenomenal debut LP from Alaska & Paradox now available on Paradox Music. If this says anything, the entire album has been in my playlist all week -- and listened to beginning to end. I highly recommend it for drum and bass and downtempo fans alike, or if you just into good drum work, lush ambient textures and moody beats. If you're familiar with Alaska & Paradox, you can expect the same quality-forward thinking music. If you don't know the name, give it a listen -- it's well worth it.

Winter Music Conference 2009

Here we go again! Winter Music Conference completely takes hold of South Beach next week and like every other year I've attended -- I'm hype for all of it. Slammin' parties, dope line-ups, great friends, good times to be had. People are excited to come to Miami, I'm equally excited to have them coming through my hometown. I love it.

Bassdrive // Third School of Thought - Ike Throwdown

It's been a rather sporadic week with school kicking up, and simultaneously being an arm-chair meteorologist; trying to predict what's going to hit, and what isn't -- lumped in with the usual routine (read as: busy). There's no worse feeling than scrambling to prepare and not having enough time to, or not having [sufficient] supplies for what could be a long-haul after a storm passes. That being said, I've been a little quiet this week in preparation for what could be a direct hit on South Florida.

I know I mentioned yesterday that there was a frenzy in the streets already, and true indeed. Although, when the crowds start forming in the bottled water aisle, and store employees are posted up at the end-caps, ready for constant re-stocking of those shelves -- take note.

Needless to say, I anticipate working like a fool over the next few days (mainly because of Ike); but then again, what else is new? Nothin' but the rent.

Back to business...

For those new to the blog, I've produced a weekly Drum and Bass radio show every Friday from 4-6pm Eastern on Bassdrive now going on 7 years. Hurricanes + DNB Classics Night ft Dara, A-Sides + More

Even though Tropical Storm Fay was essentially a non-event for South Florida, work has been keeping me busy because of it and the storm keeps lingering over the state. All it takes is one time for you to slip on preparation, have a hurricane pull a funny track on you, and before you know it you're in the middle of a recovery and restoration mission. Experience something along the lines of Andrew or Katrina, and you know better.

Goldie Conducts Brahms

The Metalheadz label-boss is debuting his orchestral flex. This is an interesting bit of news from an equally interesting individual. Although, knowing that Sine Tempus, his album/movie/soundtrack project that has yet to see release is out there; I'm not too surprised with this. I'd certainly be interested in hearing the results though.

Dieselboy // Substance D

Dieselboy's lastest release, Substance D, marks the 12th mix compilation from one of the most recognized figures in American Drum and Bass. As far back as I can remember, the Dieselboy mixes always had some interesting and fresh exclusives, precision mixing, and a real attention to detail that made the package that much more complete. The 2xCD release includes the mix, titled Maximum Strength, and some of the unmixed tracks on the second CD titled Extended Release. DJ Vapour // April 2008 Studio Mix

Representing 36th Chamber out of Newbury is DJ Vapour with his monthly promo mix. I've been listening to quite a few of his recent releases, and dude's definitely onto something, sonically and stylistically speaking. He's putting out some really dope beats, and beats that really fit the sound of the label they're on, like the work he's done with Randall for Mac II. Shoot, Randall is back out again; that speaks volumes on its own.
