Coming off a great WMC week culminating in the Stonesthrow Hella International jam at Grand Central. I heard maybe 16 bars of some new Madvillain material (thank you, J Rocc) and I'm amped for the release.
Never ceasing to amaze, Truth & Soul Records bring forth their latest offering, a single from long-time T&S trumpet player Michael Leonhart & The Avramina 7. Absurdly funky and absolutely quality as you can expect from T&S. This, the debut 45 for the group, is now available at the Truth & Soul online store.
Kicking off the debut long-player series Toeachizown from Dam-Funk is LAtrik, the first of five volumes showcasing Dam's signature spaced-out electric funk. Look out for the remaining volumes in stores this Fall.
Week 3 of Manic Mondays gives us another K. Sparks exclusive, with Pajozo on the beat.
K on Definition:
"This song is about my passion for Hip Hop...but I took it even further to discuss exactly what is the definition of real Hip Hop music...the jazz Hip Hop fusion of the beat that Pajozo made is dope...it's real music" -K. Sparks
Another one that will see release on September 30th, producer Ayatollah's instrumental LP, Drum Machine. Twenty-two fresh tracks from the man who's production credits include Rakim, Wu-Tang, Mos Def, and Pharoahe Monch, and Talib among others. Look for this one in your digital retailers via Nature Sounds.
EDIT: Artwork removed upon the receipt of a Take Down Notifcation
That new new from the Great X, taken from his forthcoming album, Generation X. This one had me from the break. The albums sees digital release on September 30th, and in stores November 4th. I'm hyped for this, but it needs more Diamond D. I'm just sayin'.
Peep the trailer for the forthcoming documentary chronicling the b-boy movement.
Excerpt:
Trailer for the Upcoming Feature Film, The Way of the Bboy, an independant film by soul gorilla productions and Caid productions about the history of breakdancing and the culture surrounding it. This film is centered around the world champion break dancing crew the Massive Monkees and is presented by one of its founding members Jeromeskee.
I'm all about culture, and this certainly looks promising. Expect to see more from this particular project and Buzz Paradise in the future.
Ferocious is one of the many adjectives I would use to describe Guilty Simpson. Among one of the game's most underrated emcees, he is exemplary proof of what a unique lyricist should sound like -- in my opinion. There are quite a few unique lyricists out there, I'm not arguing that, but there are far too many that sound the same; and Guilty Simpson isn't one of them.
DJ Muggs speaking on the versus series, as well as past and future projects. I love it when cats have this kind of vision with what they do. Get personal with it and take it somewhere. This collab has presence. Muggs' beats and horns are just thick and in your face, and the bottom in Asia's voice is equally imposing from verse to verse. Everything I've heard so far, just bangs.
Pain Language drops September 16th, but getthesenow.
Wow. The track on this is serious. Babu flips some massive horns on a latin tip, with a sample I swear is Celia Cruz. It taps into the Cuban in me. I'm staring at the speaker with my head tilted to the side, ala Nipper, the RCA dog.
Look out for Babu's Duck Season 3, out October 28th on Nature Sounds.
As I keep shuffling through my inbox, more heaters keep surfacing. Godsendant hit me off with this during TS Fay, so it slipped momenatrily. This one has been doing the rounds on the blogroll for a few days, a deservedly so -- check those guest appearances. Here is the lead single of Krohme's forthcoming debut, The Beasts Release Chapter 1: South Of Heaven.
Pick up the digital release of Goon Opera (Come See Me) which includes clean and dirty versions, as well two additional remixes, at the Godsendant Music Storeright now.
Look out forThe Beasts Release Chapter 1: South Of Heaven, in stores Sept 16th.
Check the EPK for Termanology's forthcoming Politics As Usual, out Sept 30th on ST/Nature Sounds. I've been feeling everything I've heard from this album so far, and given theheavyweight list of appearances between producers and emcees -- definitely looking forward to the release. Just listen to the beats on the video, and go buy that shit next month.
