2008 Hip Hop Leaders World Peace Conference Recap

2008 Hip Hop Leaders World Peace Conference brings at-risk youth, the community, celebrities, and musicians together for a common cause.
On Saturday, August 16th 1600 Avenue Inc., a 501C3 organization, and its flagship program Hip Hop Leaders (HHL) brought at-risk youth, the community, political figures, and an impressive number of celebrities, musicians, actors, and other influencers together in the name of unity, education, and a safer future for the youth.
The homie Omer at UniverSOUL chimed me into this event a week or so ago, and I wish I wouldn't have been locked up in Miami (occupied, not incarcerated). It's always rewarding to see the industry give back, be it through charity, mentoring, or what have you. At its foundation, it's supporting the youth, and it's giving back to the community.

Hurricanes + DNB Classics Night ft Dara, A-Sides + More

Even though Tropical Storm Fay was essentially a non-event for South Florida, work has been keeping me busy because of it and the storm keeps lingering over the state. All it takes is one time for you to slip on preparation, have a hurricane pull a funny track on you, and before you know it you're in the middle of a recovery and restoration mission. Experience something along the lines of Andrew or Katrina, and you know better.
No fun, but nonetheless, that's been my mission since Monday, and we're in the thick of the season right now. Say hello to Invest 94 and Invest 95 -- the orange and shaded circles.
Since we're on the topic of South Florida, I cordially invite you to get down with us at the World Famous Laundry Bar, as we get our classics on. I've been throwing around tunes in my head on this for days.

The Hip-Hop Leaders (HHL) Program is a year-round after-school college prep, technology prep, and mentoring program. The program uses the excitement and relevance of the hip hop culture and now skateboarding to connect with at-risk youth, then motivate and enable them to pursue higher education and technology careers.
UniverSOUL Productions has been working very closely with the Hip Hop Leaders program over the past 9 months to help develop the program, add value through strategic partnerships (MySpace, Oakley, Alphanumeric, Timberland, Fusicology, A-Side Worldwide, Robustflavor.com, Imeem, DC Shoes, Ubiquity Records, and several online publications), and ultimately help these at-risk youth the best we can. UniverSOUL Productions has also integrated skateboarding and art into the curriculum as added ways to connect with the youth and educate them in life skills and culture.

Supernatural and DJ Scratch doing some ill shit. Arguably one of the best performances of the entire festival, in my opinion. From the aspect of creative flow, live appeal, and getting the audience reaction they did given the time they performed -- these guys killed it, hard.
Supernatural was freestyling off whatever was being thrown on stage and DJ Scratch was constructing beats on the fly based on mere beat-boxing. Impressive on the flow, and on the beat improvisation. Suparnat even came down to the crowd afterwards and chilled. Nice cat.
For a second I thought I was listening to Rahzel at first, yeah, alright. The name is DJ Scratch, recognize me.
My bad.
Audio is aight here. I got Pharcyde videos but the audio is shit. I can share them but the audio is shit. You can thank the skull-shaking, teeth-rattling, sinus-clearing, ear drum violating subs at the base of the stage for that.

Phenomenal performer, and you can see it that he just connects with his audience. The entire amphitheater was vibing.

It's funny because I had seen him back-stage and didn't think much else beyond "oh shit, it's Dres."
Alright. Next thing you know, cat jumps on stage during De La's set.
So De La do their thing and then Dres destroys the place with The Choice Is Yours.
The digicam has a size limitation, so the first clip is short so I could capture the entire thing on the second one. The first clip show Dres and Pos making everyone get down low, as is in the video.

You might be able to see Ghost's kid off to the right. Look for the mini-Ghost.

Here's a little Wale acapella freestyle. He went on early in the afternoon when it was still damn hot anywhere you went -- shade or not. Being the first time I see him live, I was impressed by homie's performance and stage presence.

Video comes courtesy of RubyHornetTV. As much as I want to watch this, I'm not gonna and just save myself for the real deal next week when RTB invades Miami. It was a p-h-e-n-o-m-e-n-a-l show last year and I'm expecting no less this year; especially with that hefty (and once-in-a-lifetime) line-up. Tickets are still available, and reasonably priced for the quality talent you'll get to see.
