I feel it right to join the rest of the global hip-hop community in paying tribute to one of the genre's greatest crooners ever to grace the microphone -- Nate Dogg. From his uncredited appearance on the '92 West Coast classic, Dr. Dre's The Chronicto the seminal G-Funk anthem, Warren G's Regulators, Nate's signature voice stood out (and stood strong) for almost 2 decades in a sea of watered-down, generic garbage.
Coming off a great WMC week culminating in the Stonesthrow Hella International jam at Grand Central. I heard maybe 16 bars of some new Madvillain material (thank you, J Rocc) and I'm amped for the release.
I woke up this morning and suddenly (and quite unexpectedly actually) Kraftwerk popped into my head. Not a bad thought to have first thing, but imagine doing the robot and trying to say TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS with a mouthful of toothpaste.
Rendezvous on Champs-Elysee... Leave Paris in the morning on T.E.E.
Sheer brilliance by the agency responsible for the latest Adidas campaign. The track is what actually caught my attention at first. Feel good business, all day. Some of you may recognize the Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons flip, it's actually Madcon on one of the reworks. Pick-up their album effort, So Dark The Son Of Man, out now and available here. The version on the commercial is actually Pilooski's edit, thanks Martin!
In terms of the ad doing what it's supposed to do, it hits the mark, spot on. I've seen a few blogs here and there bitching about the fact that a horde of celebrities appear in the spot and making snide remarks with regards to the irony behind the Celebrate Originality campaign.
Give me a break. Don't hate.
The commercial features some of the most prominent supporters Adidas has; be it by contract or otherwise.
Get off it and respect due to 60 years of Adidas. Salute.
This is the jam. Its been floating around since the beginning of the year and is now seeing release backed with a dope DJ Sneak remix. Outstanding track, be sure to pick it up at your favorite retailer. Look out for the forthcoming 1200 Warriors album, Live From NY.
Buck is back on the block, and is doing a little dance for us. It's comforting to hear that his health has stabilized and he'll be back in the studio soon to continue work on a myriad of projects. Read below.
Press Release:
After spending 8 days hospitalized in intensive care, the legendary MC, Buckshot, has been released from the hospital, and is now resting at his home in Brooklyn, NY. Upon returning from a 3 week European Tour last week, the Black Moon and Boot Camp Clik frontman suffered a series of seizures.
While it's still unclear what caused the seizures, Doctors believe that Buckshot was physically drained and became severely dehydrated to the extent that caused his body to shut down and suffer 9 seizures in less than 1 day. Buckshot was in good spirits today as he left the hospital, and is looking forward to his next endeavors as he prepares to finish his group project with KRS-ONE, begin work on his third album with super-producer 9th Wonder, as well as a 4th studio album from BLACK MOON (DJ EVIL DEE and 5FT).
In a statement this morning, Buckshot said "I want to thank all the fans who called and wrote emails extending their well wishes and prayers. All the support helped me recover that much quicker."
In true Buckshot fashion, he left the hospital dancing. With his health returning and with the release of Heltah Skeltah's "D.I.R.T." album and DJ Revolution's "KING OF THE DECKS" album; both in stores this week on Duck Down Records he's got good reason to celebrate.
I'm usually into forward-thinking music like this. It's refreshing to hear producers and groups try something new, something different that is a long-shot from the structured, predictable, and samey nature of most contemporary music. I listen to a lot of vintage funk and soul, and I've always held the belief that musically-speaking, those individuals had more true funk and soul in 4 bars than most modern compositions have in 3 and a half minutes.
Peep the trailer for the forthcoming documentary chronicling the b-boy movement.
Excerpt:
Trailer for the Upcoming Feature Film, The Way of the Bboy, an independant film by soul gorilla productions and Caid productions about the history of breakdancing and the culture surrounding it. This film is centered around the world champion break dancing crew the Massive Monkees and is presented by one of its founding members Jeromeskee.
I'm all about culture, and this certainly looks promising. Expect to see more from this particular project and Buzz Paradise in the future.
DJ Muggs speaking on the versus series, as well as past and future projects. I love it when cats have this kind of vision with what they do. Get personal with it and take it somewhere. This collab has presence. Muggs' beats and horns are just thick and in your face, and the bottom in Asia's voice is equally imposing from verse to verse. Everything I've heard so far, just bangs.
Pain Language drops September 16th, but getthesenow.
I just figured out what Biggie tune this jumps off of, Dreams. From the guitar licks to the obvious lyrical nods, this shit is teeming with Notorious-ness. My man Omer thinks that the video is targeting the Hipsters, which it is, but there is something far deeper in here that's true Hip Hop.
The video is a cool concept, but the track stands on it's own.
As I sit back, relax, steam a blunt, sip a Becks...
