So here we are again, the ABU! massive rolls back after a week in sunny Isle of Wight.
I've been without internet access for the last 7 days so apologies if you have contacted me and haven't heard back.
During my travels I met up with some buds whom I haven't seen in a while. Big shouts firstly to
Duane and his family who I haven't seen for ages who gave us a gorgeous curry - courtesy of the perfect hostess, Claire.
 |
| Enjoying a cup of rosy at Agent Finch's! | | | | | | |
|
Also I was invited to the vinyl emporium of the one and only
Agent Finch. Here, I was treated to a cuppa, Hob-Nobs and many lost hip hop gems. I'm happy to report that I was schooled!
It's one thing to see Martin's vinyl in his
Facebook photos but it's quite another to visit and see it in the flesh and actually hold it.
Respect! And a shout to my homie
L'il Frog whom I was able to give him personally his
ABU! tee. We also did a bit of digging and had a chat over some cider. Good times.
Also, don't forget that this Saturday is
Chrome's Stag-Do Jam in
Norwich. This is gonna be a good one so if
you can make it then it'll only make it even better!
As I might have mentioned previously there will be regulars from
Heroes,
Disco Scratch and
ABU! all making their way to
The Rumsey Wells, too. So if you like your hip hop cooked with an old school flavour and your funk topped-off with original breaks then say no more.

It's that time of the year again. I'm taking my annual summer holiday break with wifey and the sprogs and won't be around for a week or so.
In the meantime, feel free to view the above video many times. It got me in the mood for sure.
That is all.

Less than 2 weeks to go and the preparations for the
Street Sounds UK Fresh Reunion are in full swing.
Saturday July 16th is the date,
The Scala in London is the place. Nearly exactly 25 years to the day of the original and legendary
UK Fresh 86 as well.
I will be in attendance along with
Mr & Mrs Waxer, Inch, Crimes, Steve B, Ambush and most definitely many others attached in some way to either
ABU,
Disco Scratch or
Heroes Of UK Hip Hop.
It's certainly going to be an interesting night because apart from the acts and DJ's themselves, I'm looking forward to meeting up with like-minded individuals who are now past all the teen-angst and screw-faces and are just up for getting down.
Let me know if you are going as we'll definitely hook up at some point in the night.
Guests confirmed so far:
NEWCLEUS
CAPTAIN ROCK
THE B BOYS feat.
DJ CHUCK CHILLOUT
ARTHUR BAKER
MC: BBC RADIO’S DAVE PEARCE (....hmmmm?)
DJs: GREG EDWARDS, DJ MIRAGE, ANDY SMITH, MIKE GEE more…
Plus
B-Boy Battles & Performances
Mixing
Graffiti Exhibition
Street Sounds Memorabilia
Plus more…
There's still unconfirmed guests in the line-up and I'm hoping and praying that it might just be one particular
Uncle of Electro that is dear to all us ageing b-boys...!
And this news just in, point your computer's browser to
Waxer's gaff on
Thursday 14th July at
9pm where his
Disco Scratch Radio Show will be a
Street Sounds Special.
Oh yes.

Well, it's true there ARE a lot of ageing b-boys on
Facebook, but there is only one
Ageing B-Boys Unite! group on there.
As the whole world and their dog seem to be spending half their life on it then it's only natural that
ABU! should be a part of that cyberphonic presence as well.
There are chats and discussions that don't make it to the blog so if you feel you need to waste more time on the internet than you already do then may I suggest that you make your way over to the
Facebook Group page immediately.
Hey, maybe it's time all you Luddites •coughRUSEcoughHomerJcough• got in on it as well ;-)

It's back! After last month's unbeatable return to life, the
NO HALF STEPPIN night is almost upon us for another night of pure classic hip hop and funk.
Now, some events boast about their policy of playing these genres but
Sure Shot Productions deliver and undoubtedly stick behind their promise. The hip hop is nothing but classic material - they don't stick in the odd new track to test the waters, it's strictly party bangers and jump-up stuff. The funk is dripping with the original essence of that block party flavour and brings that whole 1970's era of the South Bronx to, er,
Norwich.
DJ Sure D of
Def Tex is this month's guest so it's going to be another great night.
And read my lips, IT'S FREE!
Saturday 18th June 2011,
downstairs at the RUMSEY WELLS, Norwich. Be there from 8pm.

It's a sad day this Sunday when
Power FM loses it's best show,
The Plastic Attack.
Plastic Attack has been going for the last 13 years believe it or not. Unluckily I only started listening 2 years ago so I missed the majority of the good stuff.
Just to bring you up to speed if you aren't a regular listener, the show is presented every fortnight on Sunday afternoons with
DJ Laz-E (who, like Ron Burgundy is kind of a big deal) at the controls and usually accompanied by the man
Goldy at his side.
The musical selection is strictly old school/true school with some great electro gems thrown in. Add in some banter on themes of the day which can usually be triggered from the goings-on in the chat room with topics such as the whereabouts of the stars from '
Breakdance The Movie'!
Don't be too disheartened though as this not an ending but merely a segue-way onto bigger and brighter prospects. The show will be moving to a new home at
RTÉ 2XM - Ireland's answer to
BBC1 Extra) and will resume it's throne on
Sunday May 22nd at
9pm.
In the meantime, as this is the last ever show to be broadcast on Power FM, the boys have promised that they will be going out with a bang!
Besides plenty of giveaways, Laz-e & Goldy will be joined in the studio by Irish Hip Hop socialite "
Tall Paul" and human beatbox supremo "
White Noise". They'll also be joined (live) from New York by very special guest, an Old School legend,
M.C. Globe of
The Soul Sonic Force!
You can listen live at
Power FM and the show goes out at 4.30pm this
Sunday 8th May. There is also a
webcam available so you can witness the drama unfolding as it happens. And don't forget to jump in the
chat room, too.

This month's
Disco Scratch Takover Show is, as announced last month, a
Star Wars Special rather than the usual shizzle.
Star Wars fans, rejoice and join the Rebellion with your co-hosts
Waxer and
REPO broadcasting live from Endor this coming Thursday (28th).
A special show to commemorate every young Jedi's favourite time of year,
Star Wars Day (May the 4th).
2-hours of live banter, hip hop, memories, humour and of course Darth Vader on the slide-fader!
And all you non-SW kids can join in, too as us Jedi's are a peaceful race ;-)

It's almost the end of the month, folks, so you know what that means.....
And co-incidentally that last day of the month just happens to be a Thursday.
The monthly ABU! Disco Scratch Takeover Show is this Thursday (31st) and is guaranteed to be rammed with so much good music and dopeness that you know money just can't buy.
If this month's show was a food, it'd be bangers and mash. With gravy. And peas.
Truss, blud. Ya don't wanna miss. And that.

....or
UK Fresh '11.
Yes, the 2nd version of the legendary
UK Fresh '86 is coming to The Scala, London on Saturday 16th July 2011.
There are some big acts lined up including
Newcleus,
Captain Rock,
The B Boys,
Grand Mixer D.ST and maybe
Freestyle ('Don't Stop The Rock').
This is more than exciting to me as;
a) I never got to go to UK Fresh '86 and
b) Hearing some classic Electro being performed live may just blow my mind.
Tickets will go on sale at 6.00pm on Thursday 31st March and I will update you with prices hopefully before that. Bear in mind though that this
IS a Morgan Khan event and as such it will NOT be cheap!
Apparently there will only be 1000 tickets for the event and unlike before, will only be one performance.
However, along with the live acts there will also be live graffiti, b-boys and dj's playing from the Street Sounds albums ‘Anthems’, ‘Rare Grooves’ to ‘Jazz Juice’ and House.
There will be a
Street Sounds Memorabilia and
Graffiti Exhibition as well as the
Street Sounds Wall Of Fame - if you purchase your ticket online you will have an option to write an email back talking about your experiences from the 80's in hip hop. These will then be collated and printed on the wall.
Also the whole night will be filmed for a future dvd release -
obviously Morgan has been kicking himself for 25 years wishing he'd hired some film cameras for Wembley.
So who's up for this, then??

In the next few months I'm thinking about doing an ABU! Podcast with the theme of
filth.
Yep. Dirty. Rude. Nasty. Too $hort. Kool Keith. Andrew Dice Clay. The sort of thing that might get us kicked off the air.
If you leave it up to me you're likely to get 2 hours of
2 Live Crew tracks so I'm enlisting your help as to what else is available.
We're talking hip hop and funk here, don't forget. I don't want links to pr0n sites ta very much. Although......
So, put on your thinking caps and get nasty. Ageing B-Boys Unite! The Booty Special haha..
Jim C, this one's for you!
And as it goes I'm a big fan of 2 Live. Luke Skyywalker's own stuff can get a little tiresome to me but c'mon, 2 Live Crew's 808's and Mr Mixxx's scratches....? I mean, woah!

Some of you may remember that at the
Christmas 3 The Hard Way Jam I rocked up wearing a special
ABU! shirt.
This was a unique one-off that I had printed especially for the occasion. Since then I've had a bit of interest in them and am now getting the wheels rolling on getting some more done in an official capacity.
For now I just want to see how many people are interested so if you are then leave a comment or send a mail to be at
ageingbboysuniteATyahooDOTcom. And state which size you're interested in.
Remember this isn't a binding contract or anything! I'm just gauging interest.

I was saddened to hear this week that a fellow Blogger may be ending his site due to outside forces - primarily to the muthaf@%$ing
DMCA blog police.
I'm talking about
SCENES who currently runs
The Underground Strikes Back.
Sadly, it looks like it will be no more by the end of the month and there is a great selection of stuff available for download. However you've got to get there quick or else it goes with the site.
While you're there, please take a few moments to leave a comment and give thanks as Phil has been providing quality content for over 4 years now.
I've certainly bagged a few goodies over time and caught some rare vids and mags so for that I say a massive thanks to Scenes.
Also, it was this very same guy who way back in the early 90's designed a couple of front covers for my hip hop mag, Juice. Top man.

This news item was just posted on the
ABU! Facebook Group Page by my man,
DJ Cutloose.
Details are sketchy but the father of hip hop,
Kool Herc is very sick and is currently in hospital.
Being that the US medical system is different to the NHS here in the UK, he is badly in need of funds as cannot afford hospital insurance.
This is bad.The FATHER of hip hop needs money.
The man who pioneered the music which we all love and live is in such a bad financial state that he may die over something as trivial as this.
This man stood and watched as those he had schooled, those who had gone to his jams at 1520 Sedgwick Ave, The Bronx took his teachings and pulled themselves up the ladder gaining worldwide fame and never looking back.
It makes me very angry that even the
birthplace of hip hop could not even be saved by......well, I'm not even going to name anyone but you all know who.
Artists, managers in the hip hop industry, those with designer clothing labels, record labels...
Fuck it. I'm talking about
Russell Simmons, Damon Dash, Master P, P Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye, 50 Cent, Eminem.....the list goes on.
Jeeez,
Puffy and
Jay-Z between them are worth a couple of mil short of $100 million dollars!
This is serious business and if not one of these big players can step up and help the man then I really don't know what to say.EDIT.1520 Sedgwick Ave HAS been saved by a
$5 Million dollar loan!
Big shout to my homie,
Jaz for this wonderful news
.

Ironically, due to a power failure at the radio station on Sunday, the
Ageing B-Boys Unite! / Sonicity Takeover Show didn't go out.
However
Power FM will - hopefully, as it's not on the air as I type this - put me on at the same time the following Sunday.
So make ANOTHER date in your diaries or your flashy, shiny, silver thing all you cool kids.
SUNDAY - 9TH JANUARY - 2011 - 4.30PM GMT

You can now find ABU! on
Facebook.
There's a new, dedicated group page where you can find other ABU! readers and even those who aren't regulars (shock!) and get down.
Click here to go straight there; you will not pass Go and you most def won't receive £200.
It goes without saying that you must
already be a member of
Facebook to join up. I know, sorry,
Grandma, eggs..etc...But you see these days companies such as
KP Foods need to inform the general public that a packet of peanuts MAY contain traces of nuts so......!
Easy peas.
