I Can't Live Without My Radio....da-na-naaa

Internet radio. Do you listen to it?

Go on iTunes and fire up the 'Radio'. Just look at how many stations there are out there. It's daunting, isn't it? Click on Hip Hop/Rap and there are 299 channels available from ABC Rap to ZET Rock & Rap.
However if you aren't a fan of iTunes and just prefer to go straight to the source and listen to the music then read on.
There are some stations that I listen to on the reggy-reg. If you have any recommendations then post them up in the comments.

Future Radio

Tuesdays - 10pm-12am - The Hip Hop Sessions with DJ Just-1 - Future Radio

Norwich's own Just-1 controls the wheels of steel for the first hour which can sometimes be newer hip hop while Mr Eps is on for the final 11-12 shift playing the classics.
Future Radio is a community radio station broadcasting in the west of Norwich in Norfolk. You can however listen over the internet from the homepage.

RTÉ Radio

Fridays - 9pm-10pm - The Plastic Attack with DJ Laz-E

Live from Dublin is Ireland's own DJ Laz-E who plays classic hip hop with guest hosts Raggaman Bob and DJ Cool C on rotation.
Expect some back-in-the-day rock breaks as well.

Broadcasting digitally on RTÉ 2XM and also over the internet, thankfully. If you visit the Plastic Attack Facebook page then you can get involved in the chatroom on a Friday.
The show is usually available for download shortly after the live broadcast.

Disco Scratch Radio

Thursdays - 9pm-11pm (sometimes longer...) - The Disco Scratch Show with Waxer

You should all know by now the scoop on this one.
A weekly 2-hour show hosted by Waxer on his own Disco Scratch website with affiliations with Freestyle FM and Sensei FM.
The first and third week of the month are a mish-mash of old and new hip hop. The second week is the Heroes Of UK Hip Hop Takeover show with an emphasis on....er, UK hip hop. The last Thursday of each month is yours truly, the Ageing B-Boys Unite! Takeover Show providing the beats and basslines.
The chatroom is really where the magic is though and you can sign into it whilst listening.
All shows are archived and are available for download shortly after the live broadcast.

The 29th September sees the last regular show on DSR for a short while whilst Waxer relocates and gets things settled then hopefully it'll be back to business mid-November.

Back Once Again With The Ill Behaviour

So here we are again, the ABU! massive rolls back after a week in sunny Isle of Wight.

I've been without internet access for the last 7 days so apologies if you have contacted me and haven't heard back.
During my travels I met up with some buds whom I haven't seen in a while. Big shouts firstly to Duane and his family who I haven't seen for ages who gave us a gorgeous curry - courtesy of the perfect hostess, Claire.

Also I was invited to the vinyl emporium of the one and only Agent Finch. Here, I was treated to a cuppa, Hob-Nobs and many lost hip hop gems. I'm happy to report that I was schooled!
It's one thing to see Martin's vinyl in his Facebook photos but it's quite another to visit and see it in the flesh and actually hold it.
Respect!

And a shout to my homie L'il Frog whom I was able to give him personally his ABU! tee. We also did a bit of digging and had a chat over some cider. Good times.

Also, don't forget that this Saturday is Chrome's Stag-Do Jam in Norwich. This is gonna be a good one so if you can make it then it'll only make it even better!

As I might have mentioned previously there will be regulars from Heroes, Disco Scratch and ABU! all making their way to The Rumsey Wells, too. So if you like your hip hop cooked with an old school flavour and your funk topped-off with original breaks then say no more.

DJ Wildr's Crucial Electro Mix 1

I heard this on the last Street Sounds Radio show (Friday 1st July) and thought it definitely needed to be heard by everyone.
Why am I jammin' to this, you ask?
Is it because I'm going to the Fresh Reunion? Or is it because I spent the last month in a small room with no windows for 23 hours a day listening to nothing but old Mike Allen shows purely for research?

Who knows, but what I do know is that this is dope and worth 12 minutes of your time.
It's crucial, actually.

SURE SHOT PRODUCTIONS Presents NO HALF STEPPIN #2

It's back! After last month's unbeatable return to life, the NO HALF STEPPIN night is almost upon us for another night of pure classic hip hop and funk.

Now, some events boast about their policy of playing these genres but Sure Shot Productions deliver and undoubtedly stick behind their promise. The hip hop is nothing but classic material - they don't stick in the odd new track to test the waters, it's strictly party bangers and jump-up stuff. The funk is dripping with the original essence of that block party flavour and brings that whole 1970's era of the South Bronx to, er, Norwich.

DJ Sure D of Def Tex is this month's guest so it's going to be another great night.

Norwich Is In The House - No Half Steppin

I think it's about time I gave props to my hometown for representing hip hop.
Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be in the presence of many like-minded people getting down to classic hip hop beats and real funk 45's in the centre of Norwich courtesy of Sure Shot Productions.

And (as you would expect, being the namesake of one of my aliases!) Sure Shot Productions can certainly put on a night.
Consisting of top local dj Just-1 (who has a regular show on Future FM radio) and the legendary Chrome (-ex of Def Tex, the UK's longest-serving hip hop group) who just happens to be one of the country's greatest MC's to ever bless the mic.

Kid Dyno

The No Half Steppin night was back after a hiatus of a number of years and the inaugural guests on Saturday night were Kid Dyno & The Beat Detective a.k.a. The World's Famous Daily Diggers who dropped some serious funk 45's, even cutting them up to keep the beat rolling.
All through the night brief shouts were given by Ill Inspired, rocking the echo chamber, who inevitably got on the mic near the end of the session to trade some freestyle rhymes with Chrome. Dyno slipped on Good Times and the crowd got hype as the lads went for it in a 1970's Bronx park jam stylee.

I met up with a load of good people including fam from the Disco Scratch / ABU! / Heroes crew. Big shout to some of the heads in attendance; Scenes, Bit, Jim Cee, Inch, Chrome, Ill Bill, Wizla, Crazel.
Jim & Matt - I don't think I've met a funnier pair of comedy siblings since the brothers, Chuckle. Top banter
Special thanks to Scenes & Inchy who must've clocked up 600 miles between them to make the event as well. As Roy C would say, 'dedication!'

Next month sees the stylings of Def Tex dj, Sure D(elight) on the 1's and 2's. Saturday June 18th.
There's more to Norfolk than Alan Partridge and tractors. Honest!
