So What Had Happened Was...

Posted by admin on Monday, August 25, 2008

Is the the new look that I've been working on for a hot minute?

No.

While I have been working on a new version of BTB which includes a visual overhual and perhaps a move to another platform, I wasn't about to do it right now. However, when thrust into a situation, respond accordingly.

The story goes something like this:

I was demo'ing some new template options at our Blogger test site, and well, I over-wrote the wrong template. Too many windows open, phone ringin', IM windows goin' off, thinkin' about where I need to haul-ass to in a few...

oh shit, the fuck did I just do?

A good Ha Ha! is definitely in order.

This was about 15 minutes ago, so bear with me while I get things back in order, or at least viewable.

Side note, it's all love, but Blogger can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I couldn't get any of these templates to work on the test site, and sure enough, they all work on the live site. Go figure.

Back On The Box

Posted by admin on Saturday, June 14, 2008

After a sorely-needed vacation, I've touched down in Miami once again, recharged and ready to start serving y'all up with quality music. Often times I'm obsessively committed to the projects I'm involved in, so stepping away from this for a few days (being the sole writer) was surely an exercise in and of itself. I think the lack of readily available internet access while out there lent itself to achieving that, and truthfully, it was in my best interest not to seek it. Don't get it twisted, California has certainly progressed enough to have internet, I just needed to stay off it.

Dan Love said it best, "Sometimes life just gets in the way. A good thing, no doubt."

Sometimes you just need to pull your head up out of the trench and catch a breather.

That being said, it was an extremely relaxing and productive trip, and it's great to be back.

Please bear with me while I get back up to speed.

For the time being, check out the Bay through my lens, and updated beats on the BTB Muxtape.

Shouts to my family in the Bay. Let's do it again!

Off To Frisco

Posted by admin on Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Like the subject says, I'm off to SF for a few days. I'd like to think that I'll be on hiatus for the entire time, but I'll be getting up with Salva & Epcot, so I'm sure you'll be hearing something from me about them -- at some point. Maybe I'll serve up some nice imagery as the beats start flowing.

Flight time is t-minus 3 hours. Loading up the mp3 player, holla.

Shouts to the Sleepy Crayon. All praise due to Hobbes.

Monday Morning 502s For Google

Posted by admin on Monday, June 2, 2008

Most of my blog roll is turning up 502 this morning. Google servers must be strugglin' if 6-8 of my daily reads aren't coming up. We were down for a bit this morning, but came back up about an hour ago. I assume the rest should come up shortly.

bang the box // muxtaped

Posted by admin on Saturday, May 10, 2008

After finally investigating this Muxtape thing that started popping up at some of my favorite blogs, we've started our own, bang the box // muxtaped. Check it out. I put some of my currently personal playlist, as well as some joints you can that have been posted for download on this blog.

Currently, you'll find some Pete Rock, Dilla, Metro Area, Group Home, Flying Lotus, Busta, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, El Michaels Affair featuring Raekwon covering Pete Rock, J-Live, and Hidden Agenda putting it down on a re-work of some broken-beat Total Science funk.

Look out for periodic playlist swaps and check the muxtaped blog label for downloads.

Downtime // Blogger Bug

Posted by admin on Tuesday, April 29, 2008

I have to apologize for the recent downtime. Rewind to Friday, when I made my last few entries, and it's lights out on Saturday. Clueless, I contact support over at Blogger. I check everything on my end to see if I hadn't inadvertantly done something -- everything good. Contact support a few more times, no dice. Troubleshoot a bit and oh, look at this, a bug that Blogger makes little to no mention on their known issues page. I haven't had any complaints from Blogger so far, but this is just peculiar.

Oh well. We're back online now. Hopefully without anymore funny business.

I got crazy updates coming -- stay tuned.

EDIT: It's still acting up. Argh. Hold tight.

Stumbling Into '08

Posted by admin on Tuesday, January 1, 2008

Ecstatic to see '07 go, and already sketchy about '08.

What a ride...

At least my set was enjoyable last night, I got to see some great faces out, and we rinsed it out for Jaryd. I hope everyone had a great time and made it home safely.

Nothing but the best to you and yours.

Three For J

JARYD TYLER BOROS, of our hearts and dreams, returned to the harbor of God's embrace December 14, 2007 age twenty-six and in eternity ageless. Love of family, unity, laughter and compassion are his signatures on the memories of all who carry him. Incredibly creative and remarkably talented in expression, he filled our ears with his music, painted our eyes with his art, opened our hearts by his listening and warmed our souls with his kindhearted wit. With a heart of gold, our beautiful Jaryd was filled by love for all. If a friend was in pain, he was there, if someone needed a little extra cash, his pocket was open, if you needed a shoulder to cry on Jaryd was always willing to lend his. He dreamt big, striving to use his creativity to build a life for himself and one day a family. He received his masters in Information Technology from FSU. His passion for design and the websites he created earned him much admiration. His friends are abundant. "They are all such good people", Jaryd would say and the company he kept mirrored the life he lived. Music filled his soul and some of his happiest moments were spent disc jockeying with friends and on the radio Friday nights. He was as passionate about music as he was about art, friends and family. Jaryd knew how much he was loved and felt secure in those bonds. A companion on the path to all, and without judgement, he did not mean to leave us this early. All who love him know he has arrived in a better place. He will be in our hearts forever and the loss will strengthen and inspire the future of our family: "mom" Linda Mendelson, "always like a father to me" George Mendelson, "dad" Bruce Boros and his loving spouse Christina, brothers and sisters "big bubby" Aaron, "remy" Jeremy, Alan and Laura, his soul's complement and true love CV Vidal, and his loving immediate family. A welcoming lighthouse on familiar shore, his radiance brings us safely home in remembrance. Always with a smile, always with a hug.

I also had the opportunity to meet and talk at length with some of his line and chapter brothers last night. Great people who were very close to Jaryd while he was up at FSU and after he returned to Miami. Here is a graphic they drafted up in his memory.

I'm working on getting some of his old mixes together, as well as the song that was played at the chapel service, so I could share them with you. As soon as I can scan the o-bit that appeared in yesterday's Miami Herald, I'll get that up to.

My words aren't coming together like I'd want them to, but whatever, it is what it is.

A tribute graphic one of his co-workers at The Score Group put together. Yesterday was the chapel service, internment, and first day of Shiva. A jarring experience to say the least, but I'm glad I could be there for his family and friends. I was so happy to finally meet Linda and George, despite the circumstances. Wonderful people. I also saw some old faces I hadn't seen in a while. I'll be back there tonight. The phone hasn't stopped ringing.

I'm still in disbelief.

Damn, J.

Real Life Sitiations, That Is

Posted by admin on Tuesday, December 11, 2007

I'm not even going to go into some long-winded shit about the missions I've been on, but I will say final exams are just the tippy-top of that shit.

If I can make it any clearer the missions I've been on, this has been the soundtrack. You might recognize it from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Infact, it's playing right now...

English Beat - March Of the Swivelheads

Don't cry, dry your eyes, finals are over tomorrow and I'm back on mine.

Bet that up.

For the time being, munch on this, my ATCQ gem of the week.

Soulquarians, Social Media & Twitter

Posted by admin on Friday, October 26, 2007

Nothing sets your Friday in a more perfect motion than this remix of Common's Come Closer served up in a styleee that only J Dilla could grace on your ears. So sexy. The whole package is worth a listen. Whether it be the star-studded neo-soul collective known as the Soulquarians that draws you, the choice use of the sample from Ramp's Daylight, or an affinity towards funk and soul; don't sleep on this one.

Just as an aside, in case you were wondering...

Soulquarians:

?uestlove
Common
Erykah Badu
Bilal
Mos Def
Q-Tip
Talib Kweli
D'Angelo
J Dilla
Raphael Saadiq
James Poyser

... and this one features the prolific Skateboard P.

In the scope of popular music, it doesn't get anymore soulful than that.

So sexy.

In other news...

I'd like to send massive respect to Alex de Carvalho of Tapio.com and Scrapblog.com for inviting me to his Social Media class at UMiami to discuss and share ideas regarding this blogging thing of ours. I met some great people including local bloggers DearYvette, Fanless, and cgranier, as well as some really great students with some exciting ideas.

They also got me intrigued enough to jump on Twitter and see what all the huh-bub is about.
