The ABU! Plastic Attack Show / Bonus Disco Scratch Show

Posted by admin on Sunday, October 2, 2011

Last Friday was a bit of an internet radio-fest to say the least.

From 9pm was DJ Laz-e's Plastic Attack show featuring yours truly and my own musical selections for an hour.
If you're not aware, there is the option to use the 'chat facility' on the Plastic Attack Facebook group page whilst this show transmits every Friday evening. Go to the page and select 'Chat To Group' - obviously you need to be a member of the group in order to do this.

Unfortunately time flew by and out of my 15 track choices only 10 got aired.

DJ Laz-e - Live on RTE Digital Radio
01  Steinski - Lesson 3 [History of Hip Hop]
02  Hassan & 7-11 - Cold Rock Stuff
03  BDP - T'Cha - T'Cha
04  Ice T - Reckless
05  Kid Frost - Terminator
06  Davy DMX - The Dmx Will Rock
07  Hijack - Intro, Phantom of the Opera
08  Gang Starr - Jazz Thing(Video Mix)
09  Mixmaster Gee And The Turntable Orchestra - Manipulator
10  Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince -  Rhythm Trax - House Party Style

It was an entertaining time; me holding a phone to my ear for an hour; Laz-e sweating profusely and hitting switches as he was performing a one-man show on Friday.

Waxer on Friday evening -
actor used to employ likeness.
Now during the latter part of the show, Mr Waxer showed up. He then decided to keep the party going by doing a very impromptu Disco Scratch bonus show live on the air not long after the Plastic Attack had finished.
It was a very special evening as anyone who was listening will attest. You can catch the show in it's entirety as I managed to record the whole show.
Drink was flowing and everything was played off 100% vinyl. Hopefully the atmosphere can be recreated by just adding a spirit of your choice to your favourite glass as you press 'play'.

The Street Sounds UK Fresh Reunion 2011 Video

Posted by admin on Sunday, July 3, 2011

Less than 2 weeks to go and the preparations for the Street Sounds UK Fresh Reunion are in full swing.

Saturday July 16th is the date, The Scala in London is the place. Nearly exactly 25 years to the day of the original and legendary UK Fresh 86 as well.

I will be in attendance along with Mr & Mrs Waxer, Inch, Crimes, Steve B, Ambush and most definitely many others attached in some way to either ABU, Disco Scratch or Heroes Of UK Hip Hop.

It's certainly going to be an interesting night because apart from the acts and DJ's themselves, I'm looking forward to meeting up with like-minded individuals who are now past all the teen-angst and screw-faces and are just up for getting down.

Let me know if you are going as we'll definitely hook up at some point in the night.

NEWCLEUS

CAPTAIN ROCK

THE B BOYS feat.

DJ CHUCK CHILLOUT

Posted by admin on Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Last week was the monthly ABU! Takeover show.
And also due to today being a hallowed day for Star Wars geeks fans (May the 4th) the show was a bit special to reflect this.

I joined the mighty Waxer live in the Palace Of Villainy to co-present the show and we brought the Force with us plundering the back catalogue of hip hop and funk with as much tenuousness as two Jedi's could muster.

If you didn't catch it live then here it is for you, fully ready to listen in a lovely crystal clear mp3, edited by Waxer and available from loads of different filesharing places.

ABU! Disco Scratch Radio Takeover Show

Posted by admin on Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Look at me being all colonial this year. Still in the first month and I've gone guns blazing into two radio stations twisting metaphorical arms up people's backs and taking over the airwaves.

The second one is this Thursday on Sensei FM at 9pm which as you will know is Waxer's Disco Scratch radio show.
From this Thursday and every subsequent last Thursday of the month you will hear my golden vocals wafting over the internets on the reg-reg. Whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen. Or rather heard.

There's some real stonkers in this month's show and I can guarantee that there'll be something for everything including some Ice T, Run DMC, some UK stuff and a blinding, little-heard James Brown break which will simply make you do a little dance in your living room.

All this and the usual shizzle makes for a couple of hours of b-boy ecstasy.

Lock in at 9pm this Thursday to www.sensei.fm and don't forget to jump into the chatroom.

The show will be available for download shortly after but try to get the first hit on Thursday if you can.

Disco Scratch Radio 2011 & 3 The Hard Way Video Promo

Posted by admin on Sunday, January 16, 2011

So it's a new year and as we make our softly-softly approach through the initial month we are blessed with a quite literally stunning piece of audio wizardry from the Disco Scratcher himself, Waxer.
Watch the promo video below and witness the visuals taken from the 3 The Hard Way Christmas Jam with the dett new Disco Scratch Radio Show intro. I defy you not to get pumped up.
The Surgeon General of Chilltown, New York has determined that the sounds you're about to hear can be devastating to your ear.

He has also done a re-haul of his regular Thursday night Disco Scratch Show on Sensei FM - I'm sure you all catch that, right? - and it goes....like.....thiiiiiiisss.

Each week of the month will consist of one of the following in this order:

Waxer in the chair and on the wheels of steel spinning some new cuts and lots of classic and lost joints.

Special Guest Star Interview - ranging from top players in the game down to us fans of the scene.

Special Guest Takeover Show - Anyone can step up and stream a show or podcast during this particular week.

Ageing B-Boys Unite! Takeover Show - ABU! takes control on the last week of the month. Yes, yes, we are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical.

This Thursday just gone was an interview with King Of The Beats honcho and all-round shaker and mover, Pritt Kalsi. The re-up should be available soon on DS to anyone who missed it or wants to listen again.
This week sees a tasty session from Big Jim who has an almost scary collection of vinyl featuring everything you've been digging for for years.
The week after is the inaugural ABU! show. If you're a regular listener to the ABU! podcasts then you know what to expect - but this time we done gone double-time, yo. Two hours of old school goodies and funky freshness wrapped up lovingly with care by the Repo master.
This means the regular podcasts will be played live over the air first but you'll still be able to download the show later.

As you can see, things are changing for the better.

Waxer's Brand-New Funky-Ass Logo!

Posted by admin on Friday, October 22, 2010

It was meant to be a surprise. It was going to be the big New Year present to everyone.
But just like a kid with a spanky-new 50 pence piece clutched in his sweaty hand given to him from his Gran or even Def J, he just couldn't save it.

But that's good news as we can all feast our peepers on this absolutely lush logo which has been exclusively designed for Waxer's Disco Scratch site by master craftsman, Duce.
Not only is it the rebranded DS website logo but it will also adorn all DS projects from now on which is no bad thing.

Speaking of Disco Scratch, the latest show is available for download from the site and it's a flippin' corker.
This week Wax concentrated on the DJ as the main focal subject and dished out a load of classics such as King Kut, Girls Love The Way He Spins, The Manipulator, My DJ (Pump It Up Some) and so much more.
There just HAS to be a part 2 because there are so many more cuts that can be included in that list; although most of my personal favourites were played which made me grin like a special kid eating a 'large' 99 on a hot day.
And a track was even dedicated to yours truly; Kid Frost - Terminator, which is undoubtedly in my top 5 records of all time.

Get over to Disco Scratch and get your copy here.

Disco Scratch Radio 21 Golden Era with REPO136

Posted by admin on Friday, October 8, 2010

And talking of Disco Scratch Radio, I had a great time hooking up with my man Waxer on Thursday night as we hijacked the airwaves presenting the Hip Hop Golden Age Special.

You can listen again to the show by clicking here.

We announced the 3 The Hard Way conglomerate and played some wicked classics. We also had a bit of a Blankety Blank compo which is still running until 9pm next Thursday.
For the chance of winning some rare 7"s (details here) have a listen to the audio below and think of a suitable answer. There is no right or wrong answer, just the one which makes us wee ourselves the most. Some entries have come in already and the bar has been raised so get your thinking caps on.

"Westwood's status is certainly not what it once was, in fact where as once he was hooked up with legends like Marley Marl on his radio show, now he has to make do with __________________ instead."

Send your answers here. You may enter as many times as you wish.

Clyde Stubblefield's Long-Lost Brummie Son

Posted by admin on Sunday, July 11, 2010

It appears that the UK has a new Funky Drummer in it's midst. Yes, new video footage reveals to us that hip hop producer, DJ, radio show presenter and all-round biscuit entrepreneur, Waxer has a new talent up his Adidas sleeve.
As to what that talent is I'm not quite sure but here we can see some Pumpkin-esque skin-hittings as Steve tries to replicate the classic drum pattern of Schoolly D's almighty PSK What Does It Mean on an authentic 80's-looking, Simmons drum kit belonging to the Son Of Waxer.

Regardless of whether he fully achieves it or not, I see a series of videos in which Waxer recreates a new beat each time. Next month lookout as he plays his inimitable version of Sucker MC's!
