Headhunter // Nomad LP

Even if you know absolutely nothing about Headhunter, dubstep, or have already formed an opinion regarding the genre; scratch that and give his debut LP, Nomad a solid listen. For fans of Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound, this is going to be love. I'm all over it, this is a great album from start to finish.

Go buy this, you won't be disappointed.

Slutty Package, You Know...

Since the rest of the blogosphere seems to be covering the whole Ed Banger side of things pretty well, here's a little something different from a crew of crazy Danes. Noisia. These guys are among the group of exceptional producers the industry has to offer. They manage to maintain their own sound and style regardless of whatever genre label or tempo is applied. Similarly, they still port over a lot of their Drum and Bass production skill into the other beats they produce. Their mixdowns are phenomenal and there is always a perfect harmony among the elements in their tunes. Previously they also did tunes as Hustle Athletics and Frizz, but now it's all Noisia. I'm actually into most of their alternate styles quite a bit (see Yellow Brick, Gutterpump, Raar, and the Hustle Atheltics stuff) and you can hear a lot of them on my Friday night radio show. Their downtempo sounds like some gritty turntablism, b-boy shit. Listen to Square Feet, trust me.

Goin' Deep...

One genre that I've always been a fan of is Techno. Be it Detroit, Minimal, Schranz, Acid, Nortec, Ghettotech, or Tech House; I'm on it, but Detroit is the business (but that's for another post). Granted, my knowledge up to this point is somewhat superficial, though I like to think I know a fair amount with the artists I listen to. I probably know a little more than the next cat, but far from being able to school the aficionado. Don't ask me to write a thesis on it.

Case in point.

Someone asked me about Plastikman the other day, like it was the newest shit. I was more than glad to provide info and recommendations to satisfy his curiosity. I love doing that kind of shit, hence this blog.

But, back to minimal techno.

Below are two mixes that I've been giving heavy rotation, courtesy of the quality folks at Lowerdepths and The Electric Company. Not only do those guys know good drum and bass (ahem Digital + Spirit), but they also know good techno. I have them to thank for some great listening, and to my boy Phatdak for turning me on to Basic Channel. Minimal techno epitomizes the brilliant use of space.
