30 Hornets vs 30k Bees

Posted by admin on Monday, January 28, 2008

Advantage Hornets... or more like Game-Set-Match

Courtesy of a user over at FloridaDNB, this is an entry listing the 5 most horrifying bugs on the planet. This particular segment from NatGeo caught my attention because of the sheer carnage these hornets carry out as they descend on these bees. Lookit, this is 30 of these evolved juggernaut Japanese hornets versus 30,000 of your standard bees. They didn't stand a chance, it was a massacre from the jump. Welcome to the slaughter. It's also a testament to what slow-motion and dramatic scoring can do. Heh.

By the way, this shit goes after humans too... and it sprays you with flesh-melting poison. Yes, flesh-melting poison... you read right... and it sprays you in the eyes. Then, you know how most people are terrified of the aforementioned standard bees swarming? Yeah, well, these fuckers do the same thing, and each is the size of your thumb. They swarm, and eventually kill you... 40 people end up on that mission catch a bad one every year.

Nature is not to be trifled with. We may have global warming and what have you, but nature has juggernaut hornets.

"... and you dont fuck with that kind of evil" -Lewis Black

Candyland 12, It's On

Posted by admin on Friday, December 28, 2007

South Florida's longest-running electronic dance music event goes down tonight in Fort Lauderdale. Historically known from bringing everyone out of the woodworks, I don't expect the 12th year to be any different. I'm looking forward to playing back to back with Chino and Burn for three and a half hours, should be fun.

I remember hitting this one up with Jaryd. It was a yearly thing. This year he'll be there in sprit.

WMC 2008 Dates Announced

Posted by admin on Thursday, October 18, 2007

img//ericbphoto

There it is, March 25-29, 2008 -- Winter Music Conference -- Miami Beach Resort & Spa. This is annual jump-off, and it's going to be massive again this year. I've attended every year since '99 and this one will be no different. It'll be great to see everyone again and be able to catch up with those you only see once or a few times a year. It's a great week. If you haven't been, I highly suggest experiencing it at least once.

FloridaDNB.com is usually the best place for you to get information from the locals for almost anything. From event info, to hotels, food, dates, anything. You can usually find an answer to whatever you're looking for in the WMC 2008 sub-forum. Be sure to check the WMC 2007 discussion to see what you missed, and get up on the 2008 business.

Bad! Bad! Leroy Brown!

Posted by admin on Monday, September 17, 2007

Baddest man in the whole damn town!

Badder than the deep blue seaaaaa!

Badder than you and meeeee!

I found it a funny coincidence that they were discussing The Box Music Network (which I can't find jack shit about online or anywhere, despite being an intern there in the mid-late 90s) on FloridaDNB and today was Ol' Dirty Monday at BTB HQ. Nonetheless, I stumbled across some classic material, an interview segment with ODB on Box Talk.

Enjoy. I've been nostalgic all day.

Here's to one of the most original emcees to ever grace the microphone.

BONUS:

Ol' Dirty Bastard - Brooklyn Zoo II [Elektra , 1995]

Get over to about the 5 minute mark, during the live excerpt, where he talks about rap being his bitch. I think those lines right there exemplify hard-rappin'. That's how you must step to the motherfuckin' microphone, and over that beat? Rough. I love that shit.

.... aaaaand, because I loooove y'all, Dirty sayin' his piece at the Grammy's.

I know some of y'all are thinkin' about what I said about Kanye, but this is mad different. Atleast Ol' Dirty said his piece, and left peacefully instead of making some tantrum-style ruckus. Shoot, they even clapped for Ol' Dirt.

Wu-Tang is for the children.

Krust Divulges Some Hidden Knowledge

Posted by admin on Saturday, September 1, 2007

Laundry Bar last night was nothing short of dope when DJ Krust touched down alongside soon to be Los Angeles residents Mendez and GENR8. The vibe was thick, the venue was packed, and the sound system was working overtime. Plenty old and new faces out, and I even spotted Human Imprint's Demo in the cut. In short, everyone played fantastic sets that summed up into an excellent show. I got to speaking with Krust for a bit on vintage equipment, the analog sound, and his new project. He mentioned a new album in the works, as well as a new live outfit he'll be debuting quite soon. I'll have a little more info in due time and hopefully a teaser or feature mix. Till then, marinate on these classic Krust gems from back in the day.

Krust - Jazz Note - V Recordings
Krust - Blaze Dis One - V Recordings
Krust - Soul In Motion - Full Cycle
Bjork - Alarm Call (Krust's Repossession Rmx) - One Little Indian
Trinity - Gangster (Glamour Gold Rmx) - Philly Blunt

Burnin' Up & Wreckin' The Place

Posted by admin on Sunday, August 26, 2007

Laundry Bar proprietor Burn and Miami Electro bastion Wreck collaborate on what is the first in a series of promo mixes tied to the South Beach venue voted Best Place For a Second Date in the 2007 Miami New Times Best Of. I frequent the venue quite regularly and can say that it is certainly one of the better or best venues on South Beach. Intimate, always hosting diverse talent from all points, great music, with great sound, great bartenders, great drink prices, and with a radically different atmosphere than most clubs in the area. Check it out. Every single person I've told about or taken there, has said nothing but good things.

Now that I know my check is in the mail, I'll get to the goods.

This mix has been in my regular rotation for about a month now because it is so dope, that I had to share it. Some of my readers from FloridaDNB might know about it, but this one is for those who slept. The stylistic differences between two of Miami's best make for a really diverse and progressive mix. Watch out for that 1200 Warriors joint featuring Wu-Tang. Certified hot shit.

Orlando, Digg, del.icio.us, & Technorati

Posted by admin

Its been a long weekend after I played Orlando Friday night, so I haven't been able to get as much work in as I would've liked. Many thanks to my dog Myndal and everyone at Four4ths for having me, and it was great to see the Orlando crew again. Nonetheless, I was able to add Digg, Del.icio.us, and Technorati links to the post footers this afternoon. Feel free to use them and spread love! Their layout isn't perfect yet, but they're functional. If anyone has any development advice, hook a Cuban up!

Btw, you'd be surprised how much of a pain in the ass it is to find decent images for these sites. Digg was the only site where it was pretty straight forward. Dang.

Dom & Roland, Industry, Et Al.

Posted by admin on Saturday, August 11, 2007

I'm just getting around from last night's FloridaDNB & Laundry Bar Summer Series event and believe me, it was fucking bonkers. Aside from the headliner (which I'll get to in the next paragraph) Florida crew was out in full force last night. It was really good to see so many road-tripping from their respective cities.

Greats sets from Chino, Mendez, Burn, Methodus, Electron-C, Spindle, Mad Rhythm, and I had fun playing as well. Dom, it goes without saying but I am, tore the fucking house down. Still looking rough as ever, he spared no expense in making sure the crowd got the pressure they were so adamantly seeking. That being said, I give you a small D&R album primer and a classic unreleased dubs mix courtesy of D&BA.

I certainly recommend them all, but Industry is still my favorite and holds value to me for so many reasons. It was really forward thinking at the time of its release, and really set the foundation from which a lot of artists catapulted off of. It's a classic and seminal album that I think everyone should really get their ears around. The Moving Shadow label was really at the forefront of quality music and that first album was undeniable proof. From the man behind so many aliases, remixes, collabos, and the like that you've heard; here are some that you probably haven't.

I think the excerpt from D&BA says it best, and I quote...

“Dom takes us on a history trip back to the infamous Metalheadz Sunday sessions held at Bluenote many years ago, with tune selection and mixing style. If your looking for a history lesson in Drum & Bass, you’ve just found it!..” -D&BA

01. Dom & Roland - Sandgun VIP
02. Dom & Roland - Menace VIP
03. Signal To Noise (Dom & Dij) - Nanobugs (Dishing Dirt Mix)

05. Rob & Goldie - Garbage Rmx
06. Dom (feat mc.Bas) - Skyliner

08. Area 39 (Optical) Untitled
09. Ed & Optical - Lifespan
10. Dom & Roland - Pod Race

Dom & Roland - Unreleased Dubs Mix [2006]
