Stand Up and Fight

Posted by admin on Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Stand Up and Fight is the third album by the Finnish symphonic / folk metal band Turisas, planned to be released on February 23, 2011 through Century Media. The album continues to develop the themes started by The Varangian Way, but it is not actually a sequel. The lyrics, dealing with the 11th century Byzantine Empire have a universal appeal and are applicable to the modern world. Musically, the band claims to have incorporated more progressive elements, as well as influences from such genres as the 1980s stadium rock. For the first time, real string and horn sections were used to record the album.

Winds of Plague Discography

Posted by admin on Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Winds of Plague is an American deathcore band from Upland, California, formed in 2002. They are best known as one of the only deathcore bands to incorporate symphonic elements into their music.

I saw these guys at Summer Slaughter 2009, and I must say their keyboardist is a babe, SWHING! Also, I'm not much into deathcore, I usually despise that genre (most of the time.) But, their latest album 'The Great Stone War' isn't like their past two albums at all. It's like they realized they were shit and pulled a complete 180. With that said, don't judge my post on the first two albums, judge it on their '09 album, cheers.

The Cold Embrace of Fear

Posted by admin on Tuesday, October 19, 2010

The Cold Embrace of Fear - A Dark Romantic Symphony is the ninth studio album from symphonic power metallers Rhapsody of Fire. Technically speaking this would be the third album as Rhapsody of Fire, the previous six were under the name of Rhapsody but really the band is still the same. These guys are one of the few power metal bands I enjoy.

Therion - Sitra Ahra

Posted by admin on Sunday, September 19, 2010

Sitra Ahra is the thirteenth full-length musical album by Therion scheduled to be released on 17 September 2010 in Europe, and 26 October 2010 in North America. It will be the first studio release since Gothic Kabbalah in 2007. The album title was announced on 4 February 2010. As of that day, the album was in later phases of the recording. This album will be the last part of the quadrilogy, comprised of Sirius B, Lemuria, Gothic Kabbalah, and Sitra Ahra.

I had the entire Therion discography up here, but MediaFire deleted over half of the files for whatever reason, I suppose lack of downloads I guess. If you want me to re-up all of those I will, but I need some requests for it first

Lillith Immaculate

Posted by admin on Wednesday, August 25, 2010

So here's the latest single from Cradle of Filth. I'm a pretty big CoF fan and am aware of the negative comments and hate that they receive, but they've been doing what they do successfully for a long time, old CoF is some great music, this newer stuff not so much. Anyway this song isn't too bad, I'll be waiting for the november release of Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa.

Evil Metal Covers (75 Discs)

Posted by admin on Monday, August 16, 2010

Ok folks, as you may have noticed I have been absent from Angrychairs recently. This is due in part to work dominating my life, but also to this mega-mega-post I had planned. It took me days to get all the albums, and days more to organize them all with correct titles and bands, but I have done it! 75 albums of nothing but metal covers! But I cannot take all the credit, someone somewhere complied these albums - under the moniker of Evil Ultimate Metal Covers - and for that I am immensely grateful.

These 75 discs are filled with bands from all metal genres covering songs from classic metal bands, and several un-metal bands, now with a metal twist. I already had a bunch of these covers (nowhere close to the 1240 tracks in this collection), so I'm sure many of these will be repeats for some of you out there. I have never heard of a lot of the songs being covered, and even less of the bands covering these songs, but I am intrigued with the entire thing.

There is no real album artwork for these albums (being unofficial compilations), but if you google 'Evil Ultimate Metal Covers' you can find different sites with different album artwork created. Some of it is kind of neat.

Enjoy!

As an ending note, there are a lot of links here (of course) which ups the possibility that a couple of the links got crossed. So keep me informed to any mis-linked stuff.

Ayreon Discography

Posted by admin on Saturday, July 24, 2010

Ayreon is a project by Dutch composer and musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's musical style derives mostly from heavy metal and progressive rock, but combines them with genres like folk, classical and electronica to form what some call a completely new style of music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, each represented by a unique vocalist. Ayreon's music is characterized by the use of traditional instruments in rock music mixed with instruments more native to folk and classical music. Lucassen writes the music and the lyrics, sings and plays instruments on all of the Ayreon albums, alongside many guest musicians. Arjen has said he will keep making Ayreon music until the day he loses love for music or until the day he dies. Also, when asked on the "Ask Arjen Anything" channel of communication if there will be another Ayreon album, he simply stated "Definitely".

Ayreon is the definition of progressive rock-opera. Every album, with the exception of Ayreonauts Only and Elected, is a concept album - often telling of some out of this world plot and story. My favorite album is Into The Electric Castle, with 01011001 being a close second. Also, as a side note, I didn't realize that I didn't actually have a few of the albums. This site has benefited me tremendously! In my want to show you guys my music, I am discovering albums that I didn't even know I was missing. It's a symbiotic relationship.

The Final Experiment - 1995

Actual Fantasy - 1996

Into the Electric Castle - 1998 - Part 1 - Part 2

Universal Migrator Part 1: The Dream Sequencer - 2000

Universal Migrator Part 2: Flight of the Migrator - 2000

Ayreonauts Only - 2000 (Demos and Alternate Versions of several songs)

The Human Equation - 2004

01011001 - 2008

Elected - 2008 (EP)

Blind Guardian Discography

Posted by admin on Friday, July 23, 2010

Blind Guardian is a German heavy metal band formed in the mid-1980s in Krefeld, West Germany. The band is often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres, Blind Guardian is a part of the German heavy metal scene that emerged in the mid-1980's. The band's lyrics, written by vocalist Hansi Kürsch, are inspired by the fiction of fantasy authors such as J. R. R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and Michael Moorcock, as well as traditional legends and epics. Over the years, a running theme has developed associating the band members with travelling bards.

Beginning a career more focused on speed and thrash, Blind Guardian eventually made the switch into full on power metal. And along with the legendary Helloween, created and formed what would be come to known as 'European Power Metal.'

I love the later years of this group, my first album of theirs being Nightfall In Middle Earth - their most symphonic album to date - and one of my favorite albums. Their early works are more akin with thrash, but you can still hear the power elements that would become evident in their sound throughout the 90's. Again, I go through much more detail in my other site (Part 1, Part 2).

Battalions of Fear - 1988

Follow the Blind - 1989

Tales from the Twilight World - 1990

Somewhere Far Beyond - 1992

Imaginations from the Other Side - 1995

The Forgotten Tales - 1996 (Collection of singles and covers. It's cut short because I already had these songs in the collection 'Bonus Songs From Singles' below)

Nightfall in Middle-Earth - 1998

A Night at the Opera - 2002

Live - 2003 (Live)
