Terry Urban presents The Dills

Terry Urban pays homage to one of the greatest beat-smiths Hip Hop has ever known, J Dilla. All the blends sound pretty dope, but my personal favorite and the best sounding (in my opinion) has to be the Mobb Deep Hell On Earth blend. That particular snare shares a lot of characteristics with something you'd hear on a Mobb Deep track circa The Infamous and Hell On Earth. Enjoy.

Deleted tracks from Licensed To Ill. I hadn't heard these before. I think Scenario is dope. Truthfully, and if you were already thinking the obvious, I was hoping for a Beasties version of the Tribe/L.O.N.S. Certainly not that, but still sick.

According to Discogs, I'm Down had sample clearance issues. These come off Original Ill.

A Tribe Called Quest ft Brand Nubian // Georgie Porgie [Unreleased]

More unreleased Tribe action surfacing. The story behind this one goes something like this:

Story goes this version was rejected by their record label Jive Records due to the homophobic lyrics, so they made a new song out of the same beat. Apparently Grand Puba didn't want to re-do the song with a new topic which is why he's not on "Show Business".

I can certainly heard Lord Jamar, and obviously Puba on that tip, but Tribe?

While I'm waiting for things to upload, I'm perusing the feeds and I came across this. Coming on the heels of his latest album effort, 11th Hour, is the first volume of unreleased and rare recordings being leaked by Del himself. No info on these, so just playlist 'em and enjoy.

Excerpt:

This afternoon, Del told HipHopDX, "We make so much music that sometimes waiting for album to be released for folks to peep is too long. We may be on to something completely different by then and those tracks may not get used. So it's good to leak 'em out so they get heard and people can have something in between projects."

It was me, Dinco, Busta, Jarobi was there – everybody was in that motherfucker – Dres from Black Sheep was there, both of ‘em, Chris Lighty, Mase and Pos from De La, all them motherfuckers rhymed on ‘Scenario’. Everybody rhymed on it but Q-Tip, and the best motherfucker on that shit was Posdnuos. He fuckin’ destroyed it, and he ain’t even like the beat! And after he finished rhyming, everybody went back and rewrote their rhymes!

Dilla // Sniper Elite & Murder Goons

More "unreleased" material surfacing from the late (and great) J Dilla. Recorded during the composition of Donuts, these vocal versions are now being made available together, for the first time. The cut featuring Doom, to my knowledge, has never been available. However, the Ghostface joint appears on his 2006 album, Fishscale. I believe that the Sniper Elite beat was named American Graffiti originally.

Excerpt:

In late 2005 Ghostface Killa and MF DOOM were both recording over tracks from J Dilla's instrumental opus, Donuts, which saw release the following February. Some of these were released on Ghostface's Fishscale in 2006, while others, including a Dilla-Doom project, were postponed indefinitely after J Dilla's passing. Two of these tracks, “Sniper Elite” and “Murder Goons,” are presented here for the first time. The two are taken from two sequential songs off Donuts, meant to mix together. We are presenting the two songs unmixed, plus the two mixed together as a bonus track.

Cypress Hill // Caliente

Late 80's ('89 to be exact) demo action courtesy of Soul Assassins via GRANDGOOD.

Here’s a really rare recording of Cypress Hill off their 1989 demo tape that got them their first publishing deal. The demo was entirely in spanish and it was before any of the songs from the first album had been made. This track here features Sen Dog by himself over a very early Muggs beat that set the tone for what was to come.

With his forthcoming sophomore album Deuces Wild set to drop at the end of next month, here is another unreleased heater from Cannibal Ox co-conspirator Vast Aire. This unreleased joint follows LP leaks TV Land, also flipped by Melodious Monk, and the Pete Rock produced Mecca and the Ox. Originally included on the Deuces Wild tracklist, this banger will not be on the album -- so grab it now.
