So got the computer up and running, downloaded a good chunk of my music back and look for any updates to my favorite bands, and lookie here, Wrest is ready (and practically finished) with a new Leviathan album! So I figured I would post my personal favorite by him. Now I'm not too big on the drums of Xasthur, but this particular album is just a great moving piece, at least by Leviathan. Buy it! (vinyl ftw)

Another great melancholic album, from 2007. Lyrinx are from the UK, and were signed on to the Avantgarde Music label last year, but according to a friend of the band their debut is on hold due to 'personal issues'. I can't imagine how great an album they could produce with studio backing, but these guys really are great at setting up a gloomy mood. Has recorded splits with more well known bands such as Elysian Blaze and Austere. And not every song sounds the same! Quality is sub-par, but I did have to record off cassette.

Sorry for the lengthy absence, life gets in the way :P Luckily I've had no death threats etc but then again i would probably need to be found to recieve any XD Anyways, i meant to put this up way back but never got around to it. Newest from Shining, great album, still not as strong an album as my favorite Halmstad, but still worth a listen to.

Today I present to you the remastered edition of Shining's first album I - Within Deep Dark Chambers. Alot of history and drama in this band. Starting off they played a DSBM style (demos and early releases) but evolving into a more black n' roll feel with a bit of melancholy. At one point, the vocalist staged his own suicide, left a number to call for replacement vox and came as himself reborn through death. Lol, anything to be kvlt I guess A new album is due out in a month, and I am eagerly awaiting that release.

This album is definitely gonna have some haters. Yes it is even MORE dsbm, a genre overcrowded to say the least. Silencer will hook you with mesmerizing and melancholic passages and then make your ears bleed with the vocal stylings of Natteramn, which reminds me alot of Golum from LotR for whatever reason. They create a great doomy atmosphere, but still keep the black metal flag high. And the discordance between the melodic guitars and the shrieks and wails really make this album come together nicely. The band broke up a while back because the vocalist was institutionalized. Why? Probably the vocals XD
Really try to give this CD a listen all the way through, its amazing and comes together well in the end.

Now here is a band I've been loving for a while now. Lifelover is a band somewhere between DSBM and pop-metal. At first I couldn't click into the band, but now I can't get enough. I can't understand swedish at all, but the emotion conveyed through the vocalists voices paint a picture of bleak hope and misery. Again, melancholy creates a breeding ground for extreme metal \m/
