Parliament And Funkadelic Discographies

Posted by admin on Monday, July 19, 2010

Gonna mix it up a bit here, with just some good old-fashioned funk.

Parliament and Funkadelic were two of the iconic funk bands of the 70's, both led by George Clinton.
Although the bands were formed by many of the same members, their sounds were quite different, with Funkadelic opting for more of a 'full-band' sound (seeing as they started as the backing band for Parliament, that seems logical), while Parliament went into a sort of progressive-funk area, often with long songs and concept-album stories.

Parliament is the quintessential 'funk' band, with their best albums being Mothership Connection, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, and Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome. These albums are the ones that fully grasp the funk sound one would expect from this era of music.

I like Funkadelic overall more, mostly because of their focus more on the music then the story. Their albums are much more steady, with less 'awesome' albums and 'crap' albums, they are all just good. Their best two albums are Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On, Maggot Brain, and Cosmic Slop
