Before I call it a day and retire to the various barbecues to be attended this afternoon/evening, here are some of my favorites now available in your preferred retailer (or atleast on Juno, Chemical, and BreakbeatScience).
The Architex - Altitude (Original Mix) - Basement
The '96 classic soul piece Altitude gets a re-release backed with a driving remix by Blu Mar Ten. The update is definitely refreshing to hear, but it's still all about the original for me. It sounds like something akin to Photek/Studio Pressure meets Source Direct/Sounds of Life ala Certificate 18. Certainly a testament to the beauty that a sparse approach to breaks and atmospheres can yield.
Digital & Spirit - Phantom Force (Spirit Remix) - White
Spirit brings forth his rendition of what an update to Phantom Force should sound like. Figuring it's a response to the recently release T. Power & Codine mix, it's certainly a heavy-handed reply. I like the first remix, I love this one.
Funky Technicians - Blanked - Advanced
It's criminal how much Total Science I play in my sets, but they do their thing so well that it's hard not to. Once again they strike the perfect balance of chunky breaks, a fat bassline, decorated with tasteful effects and atmospheres. These guys really know how to construct a ridiculous groove.
Funky Technicians - Airtight (Furney Remix) - CIA
What do you want me to tell you? It's a Funky Technicians two-fer in this bitch. What? New blood Furney takes a stab at the '96 Legend Recordings classic Airtight. All I'm saying is tight mother-shut-yo-mouth work. I can't stop playing it in my sets. He captures the sound and vibe of the original, and graced it with his style. Look out for Feeling Up forthcoming on Advanced.
I'll be back with more, but beer and barbecue await. Peace to your middle.
