While people were all wrapped around Kanye and Curtis on Sept 11, I was gettin' into Prince Paul's umpteenth concept album, all of which have pushed the envelope of innovation. The new project, Baby Elephant, features a trio composed of Paul himself, Don Newkirk, and Bernie Worrell. As you can expect from Prince Paul, Turn Your Teeth Up
is a musically refreshing venture into what was previously unchartered territory for the usual hip hop producer.
I guess that says it all, because Prince Paul is anything but your usual hip hop producer. With guest appearances from George Clinton, Shock G of Digital Underground fame, Reggie Watts, Yellowman, and Nona Hendryx; bet that this album is overflowing with funk. I've heard three joints so far, and I'm interested. It's different, but Prince Paul is a phenomenal engineer, so you know that shit is going to sound great.
Musically forward thinking, with a grip of flavor.
This isn't Gravediggaz y'all, this is future soul.
