The 'Original' Jazzy Jeff - On Fire (Jive, 1985)

You are looking at the great Jeffrey Miree aka the 'Original' MC Jazzy Jeff from pioneering rap super group Funky 4 + 1; the first rap group to incorporate a female MC into their line up, the first rap group from the Bronx to receive a recording deal and the first rap group in history to perform live on national television.



Not to be confused with DJ Jazzy Jeff; Miree in fact sued Jive Records over the rights to the name. After the Funky 4 + 1 split, Jeff went solo and in 1985 he dropped his debut album 'On Fire' (strangely, on Jive). Jeff made a successful transition from the rhythmic party rhymes of the early school to the sharper lyricism of the burgeoning drum machine era.
