Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band from Ajax, Ontario, active since 1996. The current members are Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jason McCaslin (bass guitar, backing vocals), Steve Jocz (drums, backing vocals), and Tom Thacker (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboard).
While not as big as other punk revival acts like Rancid, The Offspring, or Green Day, I really like the quality of these guy's music. While the vocals are very much punk, the guitar work treads the line of metal, with many of the songs having really intricate solos and/or breakdown sections. The best example of that is the first song off of their debut EP/Demo, Half Hour of Power. The song "Grab The Devil By The Horns And Fuck Him Up The Ass" is an instrumental of nothing but guitar shredding (and the song title kicks ass too). Everything except their latest album. Underclass Hero - which they pussed out, going pop punk - has this edge.
Half Hour of Power (EP) - 2000
All Killer No Filler - 2001
Does This Look Infected? - 2002
Chuck - 2004
Underclass Hero - 2007
