Moving on from the awesomeness of Black Sabbath is my favorite band; Clutch.
For those who don't know about Clutch, they play varying types of stoner metal/rock. Their first album, Transnational Speedway League, is very heavy and contains guttural vocals (like fellow stoners Beaver), while their next two albums (Clutch, The Elephant Riders) are straight-forward, very groove-oriented, stoner (much more Kyuss sounding). Their independent release of Jam Room, signified a change of sound into an almost funky style, which would last up to through Blast Tyrant. Slow Hole To China, released during this time frame, is a collection of B-sides and rarities from The Elephant Riders and Pure Rock Fury-era and follow those styles. Robot Hive/Exodus (my favorite album) is the beginning of another change of style, moving this time into the bluesy style of bands like Five Horse Johnson, with the addition of the organ. This sound is continued and maximized in their latest two releases (From Beale Street to Oblivion, and Strange Cousins From The West), becoming even more heaped in the blues motif. Pitchfork And Lost Needles is a collection of their early demos and EPs before their first album. The songs from this release mirror the sounds from Transnational Speedway League, so fans of that era should enjoy.
