First off, I need to thank Khal for putting me on to Dreamcatcher Revisted last month. I was coming off my SF hiatus, so consider me (and you, through proxy) late passed.
Dreamcatcher Revisted is the lead-single off the forthcoming Cy Yung & J. Slikk collab album debut, A Tribute To Rosie Perez. The beat on this one is infectious, neck swivelin' funk. Cy's flows add a certain finess to the track that makes it the kind of thing you bump in the ride, sunroof open at 4am, coastin'.
I don't question their homage to this painfully Puerto-Rican actress. Infact, their approach is pretty clear. I think J introduces and sums up the album very well, so I'll just let him 'slpain:
Now i know what you're thinking... why on god's green earth would weLook out for more from Cy Yung, J.Slikk, BPA; and A Tribute To Rosie Perez this fall.
randomly name an album after Rosie Perez??? It wasn't random at all
actually. Think about it in terms of this: Think about Soul Train..
then if you may, think about the Dancers on the show. Remember back 20
and 30 years ago when being a Soul Train Dancer (as Rosie once was 20
years ago) meant far more than just being another video ho'fessional?
Well we took that ideaology, likened it to the former and current
states of hip hop and are attempting to contribute to the renewal of
that good feeling you got back in the day about the music.
Modeled after classic hip hop albums (mainly inspired by A Tribe
Called Quest's first two albums, Pete Rock & CL Smooth's first two
full length albums, and Little Brother's "The Listening"), this album
is designed to give you nostalgia while looking to what we hope is a
BRIGHT future for music, no matter hip hop or R&B.. its all soul to
us.
Shouts to J. Slikk and BPA for sending this my way and maximum to Rock the Dub.
