Got a nice DMCA takedown notice for my lucky 13 post.
Real lucky eh??
Blogger went ahead and removed the 'infringing' content, which to them was the full post. Would of been nice if they specified which link, Anyways heres the list AGAIN just minus any links. Defeating the purpose, I know.
To be perfectly honest this past year has seen too many excellent releases. To try and justify a 'best of list' just wouldn't be fair to the many bands who made 2009 a hell of a year! My list, is pretty far from any other year end list I have seen around, Sure it has the few 'a list' albums that have graced most lists but for the most part it is based on what I have found myself listening to over and over and over again. That is actually pretty rare for me. Enough talk, on with my list!
13. Warbringer- Waking Into Nightmares
these guys had a constant rotation on my ipod and speakers at home, seemed like there was a point I couldnt go one day without listening to them. Classic old school thrash reminscent of Kreator and Exodus but for someon reason stuck with me a lot more.
12. Candlemass- Death, Magic, Doom
I instantly fell in love with this album, Not ever really giving Candlemass a chance before I'm not sure if thats a good or bad thing. Either way I think this was one of the best doom albums that came out this year.
11. Horrific- Your Worst Nightmare
This was some kick ass death metal. Bit cheesey, bit of the 'sounds like something i've heard before' but still catchy as hell. Whenever I listen to it I just want to bang my head and even sing along. Plus the cover art is awesome, Im a practicer of 'always judge a book by its cover'.
10. Steel Panther- Feel the Steel
Love it or hate it these vulgar immature guys play good music. First couple listens were great for a laugh, and I love letting my friends know about them just to see their expressions when they hear the lyrics.
9. Goatwhore- Carving Out the Eyes of God
I've been a fan of goatwhore for a long time, their latest album was a huge success in my eyes and their best one yet. I actually havent listened to it in awhile... think I'll go do that right now.
8. House of Broken Promises- Using the Useless
This was a sneak attack on me, Having never heard of them and stumbling on them by pure accident I found them to be everything I love about stoner and southern music.
7. Behemoth- Evangelion
Much like candlemass this was the first time I ever gave behemoth a shot. I sooned realized that I had been missing out for years. Since listening to this album constantly for a month or so I went and grabbed the rest of their stuff placing them into my list of all time faves.
6. Gorgoroth- Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt
This was a strange album for me. Strange because I dont like Gorgoroth, Can't get into any of their earlier stuff but love this newest one. Turning the volume as loud as possible and just letting it wash over me. Been on my ipod since it got leaked with no intentions of leaving anytime soon.
5. The Gates of Slumber- Hymns of Blood and Thunder
One of my favorite 'new' doom bands. To me this album sounded like a classic that easily could of came out the late 80's with all those pioneers of doom.
4. Dark Funeral- Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus
Pure Evil. Thats how i describe this album to my friends that don't really listen to metal. The guitar, the vocals, the drums, everything just resonates a feeling of evil. I love it. This time last year I would of hated it. lol.
3. Slayer- World Painted Blood
slayer. Nuff said.
2. Inire- Born The Wicked, The Fallen, The Damned
This was another hit that flew under the majoritys radar. I don't think there is a single flaw to this album. Hard hitting southern groove rock. From canada! Not only are the riffs and music catchy and fun but the lyrics are actually quite god. Alot of religion questioning and soul searching. I was quite upset when they came to Toronto and I couldnt make the show.
1. Lamb of God- Wrath
I almost forgot this came out this year, seems like I've already been listening to it for much longer. Lamb of God is in my top 5 list of favorite bands, of any genre. Own their albums, tees, posters, seen them sadly only once. Im a pretty big fan. So its really no surprise that I'm listing them as number one. My own bias aside, this was one hell of an album. I don't know anyone who listens to metal that doesnt like it.
Last year for me was all about doom metal. I got into it hard, was always listening to some sort of sludgy stoner doom. This year it seems like i've been going for the harsher and harder genres. Never liked black metal but am really getting into it, keeping thrash close to heart but all while keeping the stoner doom close at hand. Who knows what i'll be phasing through next year, alt country??
As a little side note. If anyone doesnt like a band or album I put on this list, good for you. You have your own tastes and opinions much like I do. But please don't bash any of them in the comments.
