Flames and Blood is the full-length debut from Canada’s Morgue, and a most promising debut it is, as it is a monstrously heavy death-and-black metal album; the band, however, emphasizes the death-metal template with black-metal affixes and flourishes for morbid effect and intensity. While the album is replete with sinister compositions of varied tempo, each song is unified in that they all consist of heavy intricate riffing, gallop drumming, blast beats and common-time drumming, as well as the dual-vocal approach of growling and guttural death metal vocals and black metal rasps and screeches.
