Prince Paul Interview

Posted by admin on Sunday, April 20, 2008

Scoped on Crate Kings, a Prince Paul interview courtesy of Modern Fix that reminded me of all the great music he's been behind and/or a part of. De La Soul, Gravediggaz, Handsomeboy Modeling School, Stetsasonic, and his broad solo discography on scratch the surface of his talent. The Hip Hop pioneer touches on subjects ranging from Stetzo, to Gravediggaz, to his personal approach with regarding to conducting business in the industry. I grew up on a lot of Prince Paul's music, and he follows a no nonsense approach to the business that allows him to be consistent, prolific, and enjoy what he does over the long term. Sheer genius.

Excerpt:

Oddly enough, that record sparked off a whole new career for me. It was uplifting; that enabled me to meet Chris Rock and work on his record. And Tommy Boy picked up the record and they’re like, “We like this, this is really bizarre. If there’s anything you want to do with us as far as other records we’re glad to sign you.” It just opened up like this, like me meeting Dan The Automator. It’s weird, the things you least expect.
